The intertransversarii are a set of deep muscles of the back.
- Attachments: Originate from the transverse processes of cervical and lumbar vertebrae and insert onto the transverse processes of adjacent vertebrae.
- Actions:
- Unilateral – Contribute to lateral flexion of the vertebral column
- Bilateral – Stabilise the vertebral column.
- Innervation: Anterior rami of the spinal nerves
- Blood Supply:
- Cervical regions are supplied by the occipital, deep cervical, and vertebral arteries.
- Lumbar regions are supplied by the dorsal branches of lumbar arteries.
