Learn More Frequent questions What is the location of the flexor profundus muscle of the fingers? The flexor profundus muscle of the fingers is located in the deep compartment of the anterior forearm. It originates from the ulna and the associated interosseous membrane. What are the primary functions of the flexor profundus muscle? The flexor profundus muscle primarily facilitates flexion at the distal interphalangeal joints of the fingers. It also aids in wrist flexion and contributes to movements at the metacarpophalangeal and proximal interphalangeal joints. How is the flexor profundus muscle innervated? The flexor profundus muscle is innervated by two nerves: the ulnar nerve innervates the medial half, which controls the little and ring fingers, while the lateral half, responsible for the middle and index fingers, is innervated by the anterior interosseous branch of the median nerve. Where does the flexor profundus muscle insert? The flexor profundus muscle divides into four tendons at the wrist, which pass through the carpal tunnel. These tendons insert at the base of the distal phalanx of each finger. What is the blood supply for the flexor profundus muscle? The blood supply to the flexor profundus muscle is primarily from the ulnar artery. This ensures adequate perfusion for its function and health. Rate This Article
